Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has denied allegations of irregularities in the tendering process for desilting major drains, calling the claims baseless. The civic body assured that the process was conducted with full transparency and in accordance with regulations.
The BMC clarified that for the 2025-26 desilting project, tenders were invited for six municipal zones, excluding Zone 1. Bids from eligible contractors were opened on February 28 and March 1, 2025, and the submitted documents were verified to confirm compliance with eligibility criteria.
Initially, contractors quoted rates 3.90% to 10% higher than the estimated costs. Following negotiations on March 6, 2025, the rates were successfully brought down to a range between 3% above and 20% below the original quotes. The revised tenders were then approved accordingly.
“The entire tendering process was fair and transparent. We are committed to maintaining accountability in all civic projects,” a BMC spokesperson stated.
The corporation urged citizens not to be misled by misinformation and reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring efficient and corruption-free public works.
