India has reported a mild resurgence of COVID-19 cases, prompting the Union Health Ministry to issue an alert and convene a high-level review meeting. While experts emphasize there’s no need to panic, they are urging the public to stay aware and vigilant.
In recent weeks, several East Asian countries including Singapore and Hong Kong have witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases. A similar trend, though less intense, is now being observed in India. As per data from the Health Ministry, the country recorded a total of 257 active COVID-19 cases as of May 19. Encouragingly, all patients have exhibited only mild symptoms.

Taking note of the situation, the Health Ministry held a high-level review meeting on Monday. The meeting was attended by experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Disaster Management Cell, and central government hospitals.
Following the meeting, officials stated that the COVID-19 situation in the country is well under control. India has a robust surveillance system for monitoring COVID-19 and other respiratory viral illnesses, primarily managed through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and ICMR.
