Navi Mumbai: Homebuyers under CIDCO’s My Preferred Home scheme have raised concerns over discrepancies in the carpet area of Low-Income Group (LIG) flats. While CIDCO had initially announced a carpet area of 322 square feet, the letters issued to lottery winners indicate a reduced size of 291.91 square feet, a shortfall of nearly 30 square feet.
Terming the issue as serious, former MLA Sandeep Naik has demanded a clarification from CIDCO and urged the authority not to reduce the promised area.
Recently, CIDCO conducted a computerized lottery for 26,000 houses under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and LIG categories. Successful applicants have received their Letters of Intent. CIDCO had designated locations such as Panvel, Kharghar Bus Terminus, Mansarovar Railway Station, Khandeshwar Railway Station, Kharkopar Sector 16A, and Vashi Truck Terminus for LIG flats.
However, customers were shocked to find that the actual RERA carpet area mentioned in their allotment letters was only 291.91 square feet. Many buyers have expressed disappointment, as they had applied based on the 322-square-foot announcement.
Naik has called for immediate intervention, stating that reducing the carpet area after allotment is unfair to homebuyers. CIDCO is yet to respond to the concerns raised by customers and political representatives.
