The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a special heritage tour titled “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit”, offering travelers a unique opportunity to explore the historic forts and landmarks associated with the legendary Maratha ruler.
According to IRCTC official, the tour begins on June 9, 2025, and spans five days, concluding with the train’s return to Mumbai in the early morning of the sixth day. The itinerary covers major sites in Maharashtra that were pivotal in the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The Train will halt at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Mangaon Pune – Satara – Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus Kolhapur – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Boarding and de-boarding options are available at CSMT, Dadar, and Thane stations.

The tour will begin from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai. On the first day, the train will head to Raigad Fort, the site of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation and was also his capital of Maratha Kingdom. After exploring the fort, travellers will proceed to Pune for an overnight stay.
Day two will feature a sightseeing tour of Pune, covering key landmarks such as Lal Mahal, the childhood residence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Kasba Ganpati, and Shivsrushti, which reflect Shivaji Maharaj’s early life and cultural legacy.
On the third day, the tour will proceed to Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj, followed by a stop at Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga temple, a sacred temple amidst Sahyadris.
The fourth day will take tourists to Satara, with a highlight visit to Pratapgarh Fort, the site of Shivaji Maharaj’s iconic battle with Afzal Khan in 1659 and the Tulja Bhavani temple built by Shivaji Maharaj.
On the fifth day, the tour will proceed to visit Panhala Fort, known for the bravery of Baji Prabhu Deshpande, the commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and its zigzag architecture.
After Overnight journey on 6th day, the train will arrive at Mumbai, CSMT early in the morning.
