The role of laws and guidelines

India has introduced major laws to promote gender equality. The law on equal remuneration, 1976, ensures equal pay, while the law of mother’s benefits, 1961, protects women’s job during pregnancy. The Posh Act, 2013 addresses harassment in the workplace. However, laws alone are not enough – organizations should actively promote inclusive cultures.

Challenges Women Face

Despite legal security, women still face obstacles. Gender wage differences persist, and leadership roles remain male dominated. Unconscious prejudice, social expectations and unique work policy further prevent progress. Balancing career and family responsibility is another conflict without the support of the employer.

How can business drive change

Organizations play an important role in creating a similar workplace:

  • Equal pay for equal work: Companies should regularly carry out wage audits and maintain transparent wage policies to ensure justice, abolish wage intervals and promote real equity.
  • Mentoring and leadership program: Organizations must invest in mentorship initiatives provides women the necessary guidance, support and opportunities to continue in their careers and go into leadership roles.
  • Flexibility that works for you: work must be compatible with life, not in a different way. Our external working options, parental holidays and flexible hours help employees balance their careers with personal responsibility, and make sure you do not need to choose between success and welfare.
  • A safe and respectable workplace: Each employee has the right to work with dignity. Enforce POSH (prevention of sexual harassment) guidelines to create a safe and respectable environment where women feel preserved, valuable and heard.

The Road Ahead

Gender equality benefits everyone. This women’s day let’s go beyond talk to action. The real inclusion begins with us- manager, employee and lawyer. When we strengthen women, we lift the entire industry.
