The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to roll out the advanced Hospital Management Information System (HMIS-2) across all its 177 dispensaries starting May 2. This major digital leap is expected to streamline operations, boost transparency, and significantly improve service delivery for patients.
Under the leadership of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, the new HMIS-2 system will digitize every aspect of healthcare services—from patient registration and diagnosis to lab reports, medicine distribution, and treatment history. With a single click, doctors will now have access to a patient’s comprehensive medical records, saving crucial time and ensuring more informed decision-making.
“All dispensaries are now equipped with the required computers, internet connectivity, and medical software. Staff and officers have undergone extensive training. HMIS-2 was successfully piloted for six months and is now ready for citywide implementation,” a senior official confirmed.
The digital upgrade replaces the traditional paper-based record system and integrates with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Each patient will receive a unique digital health ID, allowing them to track their medical history and access treatment details directly on their mobile phones.
In the next phase, the system will be extended to 217 ‘Aapla Dawakhana’ centers by May 30, further strengthening Mumbai’s primary healthcare network.
Beyond patient convenience, HMIS-2 will assist hospital administrators in real-time monitoring of medicine stocks, evaluating service usage patterns, and shaping evidence-based health policies.
With this initiative, BMC aims to set a new benchmark in urban public healthcare by harnessing the power of technology for better health outcomes.
