Mumbai: Good news for Mumbaikars! Despite soaring temperatures and dropping dam levels, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has confirmed that Mumbai will not face water cuts this summer. Thanks to additional reserves released by the Maharashtra government, the city’s water supply is secured until July 31, 2025.
Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani held a review meeting today at the BMC headquarters, joined by Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, Hydraulic Engineer Purushottam Malvade, and senior officials. The team assessed the city’s water stock and outlined measures to manage supplies in the coming months.
Currently, Mumbai’s reservoirs hold 22.66% of their total storage. With extra water approved from the Bhatsa and Upper Vaitarna dams, the BMC assured residents that no immediate restrictions are needed.
“The situation is under control, and there is no plan for water cuts,” said a BMC spokesperson. However, the administration will continue to monitor reservoir levels and rainfall forecasts closely, in coordination with the Meteorological Department.
Even as the city avoids water cuts, the BMC has appealed to citizens to use water responsibly and help conserve this vital resource.
