With the peak season for Alphonso mangoes set to begin in March, the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Vashi has announced plans to rent out vacant stalls in the fruit market to accommodate mango traders. This move aims to address space constraints as large quantities of mangoes are expected to arrive from Konkan, Devgad, Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Karnataka.
The temporary rentals, available from March to June, are intended to ensure a smooth trading environment while optimizing market space usage. A trader welcomed the initiative, stating that it would help streamline operations during the high-demand mango season.
To facilitate the process, APMC has initiated a tender process, inviting applications from licensed traders until February 24. The tenders will be opened on February 25 at 12:00 p.m., and stalls will be allotted to traders offering the highest bid. The Deputy Secretary of the Fruit Market has officially communicated this decision to fruit sellers through a formal letter.
The rental rates for the available spaces have been set as follows: Full Galwas (warehouses) will be available for Rs. 16,500 per month plus a GST of Rs. 2,970, while Half Galwas will cost Rs. 8,250 per month plus a GST of Rs. 1,485. Office spaces will be rented out for Rs. 29,503 per month, with an additional GST of Rs. 5,311.
With this initiative, APMC aims to ensure efficient trade operations while providing adequate space for traders to handle the seasonal surge in mango arrivals.
