Traffic Jams to End in MMR: MMRDA to Appoint Expert Committee

To address traffic congestion, drone and AI-based traffic management systems will be introduced.

Thane: The district’s overall development will be ensured through new projects, and to provide permanent relief from traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the MMRDA will appoint an expert committee. This committee will conduct a detailed study on traffic bottlenecks and recommend a sustainable solution to this pressing issue. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Thane district, Eknath Shinde, on Friday after the District Planning Committee meeting in Thane.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, was held at the Planning Bhavan in the District Collector’s office. It was attended by MP Shrikant Shinde, Naresh Mhaske, Suresh Mhatre, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnai, MLC Dnyaneshwar Mhatre, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal, Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, Zilla Parishad CEO Rohan Ghuge, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goyal, Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma, Bhiwandi Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar, Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awale, District Superintendent of Police Dr. D. Swami and other senior officials.

Deputy CM Shinde informed that in the year 2024-25, 99.98% of the allotted Rs. 1,167.37 crore was utilized, while by the end of August in 2025-26, 23% of the Rs. 1,252.99 crore allocation has already been spent. He announced that all Primary Health Centers in the district will be converted into Smart Health Centers. Similarly, schools under Zilla Parishad and local bodies will be upgraded into Smart Schools, with funding support sought through CSR and public participation.

To address traffic congestion, drone and AI-based traffic management systems will be introduced. Additionally, government offices will be equipped with rooftop solar systems to promote renewable energy usage.
