Mumbai: The Mandwa-Gateway ferry service, which usually begins before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, was delayed this year due to heavy rains. The service finally received its auspicious start on September 1, providing relief to travelers. Currently, only the PNP-operated ferry is running, but with its resumption, tourism in Alibaug is expected to pick up.

Normally, ferries restart a day or two before Ganesh Chaturthi, making it easier for devotees to travel to Mumbai for shopping and other preparations. However, this year, late August rains postponed the service.
Additional Trips to Be Added Based on Weather
With the monsoon receding, ferry operations have now commenced. The first PNP passenger ferry departed Mandwa Port for Gateway at 11:30 AM, confirmed Port Inspector Mankar. Currently, only the PNP ferry is operational, but Malad and Ajanta ferry services will also start soon. Inspector Mankar stated that the number of trips will be increased depending on weather conditions.
