To reduce accidents involving the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), known as the lifeline of the state, several proactive measures are being introduced. One of the major initiatives includes an increase in cash rewards for drivers and conductors who maintain accident-free service. This decision was taken during a board meeting chaired by State Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik.
Cash Rewards Based on Years of Accident-Free Service
MSRTC will now offer annual cash rewards to drivers and conductors based on their years of accident-free passenger service. Drivers who work accident-free for 260 days in a year will be honored with cash prizes. Earlier, employees were only awarded medals, but now they will also receive monetary incentives:
- 5 years accident-free: ₹5,000
- 10 years accident-free: ₹10,000
- 15 years accident-free: ₹15,000
- 20 years accident-free: ₹20,000
These awards will be presented along with medals on key national days such as August 15 (Independence Day), January 26 (Republic Day), and May 1 (Maharashtra Day).
Minister Pratap Sarnaik emphasized that while MSRTC already maintains a low accident rate, it is important to recognize and reward employees who help maintain this record. He stated that such incentives would motivate staff to take greater responsibility for passenger safety.
Other Key Decisions from the Board Meeting
ATM Facilities at 204 Bus Stations:
To enhance passenger convenience, ATM centers will be established at 204 bus stations across the state. Tenders will be issued shortly, and both nationalized and private banks will be invited to provide ATM services.
New Buses with 3×2 Seating Arrangement:
Approval has been granted for the procurement of 3,000 new buses. These buses will follow a 3×2 seating format, increasing passenger capacity by 15 to 17 more seats compared to existing buses.
Introduction of 100 Mini Buses:
As part of the new fleet, 100 midi (mini) buses will be deployed in hilly and remote regions where current buses cannot reach. These buses aim to improve connectivity in tribal and remote areas, furthering MSRTC’s commitment to inclusive service delivery.
