Navi Mumbai Shines With Overnight Cleanup After 5.5 Tons of Concert Waste

Date:

Nerul: Navi Mumbai once again proved why it’s called one of India’s cleanest cities. After the grand “Wonderment” live concert by world-famous composer A.R. Rahman at D.Y. Patil Stadium, a massive 5.5 tons of waste was collected and swiftly transported to the city’s waste management site.

Thousands of music fans had gathered for the Waves 2025 event, but thanks to meticulous planning by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the venue and surrounding areas were spotless by morning. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, a night-long special cleaning operation was carried out.

Circle 1 Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ajay Gadade, Deputy Commissioner Somnath Potre, and Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve closely supervised the operation. Chief Sanitation Officer Sanjeev Shekde, Sanitation Officer Naresh Andher, 4 inspectors, 3 supervisors, and 54 sanitation workers worked through the night, aided by three Tata Ace garbage transport vehicles.

Apart from the 5.5 tons of waste inside the stadium, an additional 2 tons—mainly plastic bottles—was cleared from nearby roads. Residents praised the swift action, waking up to clean streets that reinforced Navi Mumbai’s reputation as a model city for urban cleanliness.
