Navi Mumbai’s Cleanliness Drive Gets Boost with New Suction Vehicles and Sanitation Worker Training

Date:

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) received a major boost to its Safe Sanitation Campaign as IKEA and the Camp Foundation donated two 2,000-litre suction vehicles and conducted a 15-day training workshop for sanitation workers.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde praised the initiative, calling it a valuable example of social responsibility. He congratulated the sanitation workers who completed the training, presenting them with certificates of appreciation at a ceremony held after the flag-hoisting event at NMMC headquarters.

The symbolic handover of the vehicle keys was done by Ms. Rupali Singh, Deputy Store Manager of IKEA, in the presence of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Deputy Commissioner Sharad Pawar, City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, Additional City Engineers Arvind Shinde and Sanjay Khatal, and other senior officials.

As part of the central government’s “Namaste” scheme (National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem), NMMC also distributed 230 PPE kits, which include safety gumboots, gloves, dungarees, helmets, goggles, N95 masks, and half-face masks, to sanitation workers.

Dr. Shinde emphasized that these initiatives are part of NMMC’s commitment to improving the safety, capacity, and dignity of sanitation workers across the city.
