In a bid to improve the quality of education in its schools, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is taking a significant step by implementing the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) pattern in its schools.
The education department has already initiated a survey for this plan, and in the first phase, CBSE schools are likely to be launched in Kalwa and Kharegaon. A pilot program is currently underway to test the initiative.
The CBSE schools in Kalwa and Kharegaon are expected to commence operations from the upcoming academic year. If the initiative proves successful, it could open doors to high-quality education for underprivileged students, giving them access to the standard of education offered by expensive private institutions.

TMC currently operates 103 primary and 23 secondary schools, educating approximately 35,000 students. Previously, the corporation focused on improving basic infrastructure such as drinking water, toilets, and school building repairs. Now, aiming to provide better educational opportunities, TMC has proposed transforming 62 of these institutions into model schools. The state government has already approved a budget of Rs 50 crore for this initiative.
