Kharghar: Residents of Sectors 34 and 35 in Kharghar are facing severe water shortages, compelling them to purchase water from private tankers despite owning homes worth Rs 1.5 crore. The failure of CIDCO to provide a consistent water supply has led to frustration among citizens, who claim that repeated complaints to officials have yielded no permanent solution.
Many housing societies in Kharghar have been struggling with water scarcity for several months. Since March, residents have been forced to spend Rs 1 to Rs 1.25 lakh per month on water tankers. Even attempts to resolve the issue by installing borewells have failed, as the water extracted is not fit for consumption or daily use.
Despite CIDCO’s claims that over 150 water tankers are sent daily to Kharghar, residents say the supply is inadequate, with some societies receiving only one tanker every five days. Complaints about unresponsive CIDCO officials further add to their woes.
“Our society has 52 flats, each worth Rs1.25 to Rs1.5 crore, but we are still struggling with water shortages. We need 32 units of water daily, but receive only 14 to 21 units. To compensate, we spend Rs 1.5 lakh per month on tanker water,” said a resident of Sector 35.
With the situation worsening, residents are demanding immediate intervention from CIDCO to ensure a stable and sufficient water supply in Kharghar.
