Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been recognised at the national level with two prestigious ‘SKOCH’ awards for its outstanding projects—‘Efficient and Sustainable Water Management System’ and ‘Cancer Care Initiative.’ The awards were presented during the 100th special ceremony of the ‘SKOCH Summit’ held in New Delhi.
Winning two prestigious awards simultaneously is a moment of pride for Navi Mumbai. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde congratulated the city’s residents and acknowledged the collective efforts that contributed to this achievement.
Efficient and Sustainable Water Management System
Recognized for its proactive approach, NMMC’s water management initiative has ensured 85% of the city has metered water connections, allowing better regulation and conservation. The corporation has also prioritized the use of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes, reducing the strain on potable water supplies. Additionally, an advanced tertiary treatment plant is supplying 50 million liters per day (MLD) of recycled water to industries.
Cancer Care Initiative
With the increasing incidence of cancer, NMMC has taken a significant step in providing primary cancer screenings at all 26 municipal health centers. Suspected cases are referred to Tata Memorial Hospital for further treatment. So far, over 10,000 women have undergone screening, with five confirmed cases referred for specialized care. To ensure affordable treatment, a special chemotherapy ward has also been set up at Nerul Hospital.
Commitment to Innovation and Public Welfare
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shinde emphasized that NMMC is committed to implementing innovative and impactful projects that benefit citizens. He extended his gratitude to the residents, public representatives, institutions, and media personnel who have continuously supported the corporation’s initiatives.
The ‘SKOCH’ awards, known for their rigorous selection process, honor individuals and institutions contributing to national development. NMMC’s dual recognition is a testament to the city’s progressive governance and commitment to sustainable urban management.
