NMMC Hospitals Soon To Set Up IVF Facility To Tackle Cases of Infertility

Navi Mumbai: In a move to strengthen public healthcare, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is considering the establishment of a hormonal study and IVF-based healthcare facility. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde directed officials to explore this initiative during his inspection of Maasaheb Minatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul, Sector 15, on Tuesday.

During the visit, Dr. Shinde emphasized the rising infertility issues due to hormonal changes and stressed the need for specialized municipal healthcare services to address them. He also urged the speedy implementation of an AYUSH outpatient department (OPD) to provide alternative medical treatments.

As part of his hospital review, Dr. Shinde identified key areas for improvement, including reducing patient wait times. Observing long queues at the case paper registration counter, he instructed the hospital administration to increase seating capacity and implement a token-based system to improve efficiency.

To enhance patient convenience, he ordered the construction of additional public restrooms and directed officials to install large, easy-to-read information boards detailing available services and essential health guidelines.

A major focus of the visit was the cancer screening unit, where Dr. Shinde stressed the need for widespread awareness campaigns to ensure that more people—especially women—benefit from early detection services. He recommended that hospital signage be primarily in Marathi and encouraged the use of digital displays, audio-visual content, banners, and brochures to reach a broader audience.

During his visit to the casualty ward, Dr. Shinde suggested installing a portable sonography machine and ordered the speedy completion of the modular operation theatre to enhance surgical facilities. Additionally, he directed that chemotherapy-related training for doctors and nurses be conducted in collaboration with Tata Center to ensure high-quality cancer treatment.

With a focus on expanding and improving municipal healthcare services, Dr. Shinde reaffirmed NMMC’s commitment to providing high-quality, accessible medical care to the residents of Navi Mumbai.
