Holi, the festival of colors, joy, and togetherness, will be celebrated on Friday, March 14. The festivities begin a day earlier with Holika Dahan, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
This vibrant festival, observed on the full-moon day of Phalguna, is deeply rooted in mythology and tradition. Popular festive delicacies like gujiya, malpua, puri, and bhajiyas add to the celebrations, often accompanied by traditional bhang-infused thandai or salted buttermilk.
Strict Restrictions Imposed by Mumbai Police
To ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the city, the Mumbai Police have issued strict restrictions. These rules will be in effect from March 12 to March 18, especially as Holi coincides with Ramzan this year.

According to an order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan, the following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Obscene Language & Songs: Public utterance of obscene words, slogans, or songs is banned.
- Offensive Gestures & Symbols: Displaying gestures, images, placards, or symbols that may offend morality and decency is prohibited.
- Throwing Colored Water: Spraying or throwing colored water, dyes, or powder on unwilling pedestrians is not allowed.
- Water Balloons Ban: The preparation and throwing of water-filled balloons, whether colored or plain, are strictly forbidden.
The Mumbai Police will deploy special teams to patrol streets, party zones, and public areas. Any individual found violating these restrictions, or aiding in the violation, will face legal action under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
Authorities have urged citizens to celebrate responsibly while respecting public order and religious sentiments.
