NMMC To Conduct ‘Active Tuberculosis Patient Detection Campaign’ from March 10 to March 22

Date:

In an effort to detect undiagnosed tuberculosis (TB) cases and create awareness about the disease, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will launch the ‘Active Tuberculosis Patient Detection Campaign’ from March 10 to March 22, 2025. The initiative, undertaken as per the guidelines of the central and state governments, will focus on high-risk areas within the municipal limits.

The campaign will be implemented by the NMMC Health Department under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. A total of 64 teams have been assigned to visit 31,803 households, covering an estimated population of 1,59,014. These teams will conduct door-to-door screenings and raise awareness about tuberculosis. Each team is expected to visit at least 50 households daily, ensuring comprehensive data collection.

During the screening, citizens will be asked about symptoms commonly associated with TB, such as a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, prolonged fever, significant weight loss, blood in sputum, chest pain, or swelling in the neck. If any symptoms are detected, sputum samples and X-rays will be conducted to confirm the diagnosis.

The initiative aims to identify as many undiagnosed TB patients as possible and ensure they receive proper medical treatment. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has appealed to the citizens to actively participate in the campaign and cooperate by providing sputum samples if any TB symptoms are present.
