Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Clinic will be Open at KEM Hospital

Date:

KEM hospital, one of the leading hospitals in Mumbai, is set to launch its first specialised Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Clinic on January 28. Amitabh Bachchan has been chosen as a brand ambassador for the clinic.

This new facility is being introduced as part of the hospital’s completion of 100 years celebrations. Liver-related diseases have seen a significant rise, with 20% of OPD patients affected by conditions like liver inflammation, cirrhosis, and fibrosis. Fatty liver disease also affects other organs in the body.

Dr. Sangeeta Rawat, Dean of KEM Hospital, said that as part of our centenary celebrations, we are launching this OPD-based facility. This clinic, led by Dr. Akash Shukla, Head of Gastroenterology, will initially be available only at KEM Hospital.

In order to prevent fatty liver, Dr. Arun Vaidya, an assistant professor in gastroenterology, stressed the value of consistent exercise for 30–40 minutes each day and controlling diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol. FibroScan and sonography can be used to make the diagnosis, and endoscopy and surgery are among the available therapies. However, Dr. Vaidya warned that a fatty liver epidemic may rise in the future if preventive steps are not taken.

OPD will be conducted every Friday

A special OPD for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver will be organized every Friday in the new building by the gastroenterology department doctors. The objective of OPD is to provide effective treatment to patients suffering from liver disorders. The special OPD work will be done under the leadership of Dr. Akash Shukla, head of the gastroenterology department.
