Toll-Free Entry for Light Motor Vehicles into Mumbai Announced by CM Eknath Shinde

October 14, 2024

Mumbai’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a significant policy change allowing light motor vehicles to enter the city toll-free. This initiative aims to ease traffic congestion and improve accessibility for commuters.

Starting next week, light motor vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, will no longer be required to pay toll fees at entry points into Mumbai. The decision comes in response to ongoing concerns about traffic delays and the economic burden of toll costs on residents and visitors alike. The five toll booths at Dahisar, Mulund, Vashi, Airoli, and Tinhat Naka will now waive tolls for smaller vehicles, providing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters. Previously, motorists were charged ₹45 at each of these toll points.

CM Shinde emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban mobility and promote the use of private vehicles in a more efficient manner. Authorities are expected to monitor traffic patterns closely to assess the impact of this new policy.

Further details regarding implementation and any potential adjustments will be provided in the coming days as officials work to ensure a smooth transition to toll-free entry.

This announcement has been welcomed by many residents who hope it will lead to a more fluid transportation experience in the bustling metropolis.
