On May 27, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road which connects Marine Drive to Worli, will be open for the public by June 10. This update comes amidst leakage issues in the first phase of the coastal road, which was inaugurated in March 2024.
The Chief Minister also inspected the leakages at the southbound tunnel near Marine Drive and after the inspection he conducted a press briefing. During the press briefing he mentioned that that there were leaks in two to three expansion joints of the coastal road.
He further mentioned that these leaks would be addressed using polymer grouting. Additionally, Shinde proposed using polymer grouting on all 25 joints on both sides of the tunnel to prevent water leakage, particularly during the upcoming monsoon season.
