Thane, August 29, 2026: Thane city will witness major traffic restrictions on Sunday, August 30, in view of the 32nd Thane Mayor Varsha Marathon 2026. The Thane Traffic Police have announced several road closures, diversions and no-parking restrictions to ensure the safety of participants and maintain smooth vehicular movement during the event.
The traffic restrictions will remain in force from 9 pm on August 29 until 4 pm on August 30. Commuters travelling through key parts of Thane have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the designated alternative routes.
The marathon is being organised jointly by the Thane Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra State Athletics.

According to the Thane Traffic Police notification
- vehicles travelling from Nitin Company towards TMC Circle will be stopped at Nitin Junction. Such vehicles will be diverted through Cadbury Junction, Khopat and Teen Hath Naka–Hari Niwas Circle.
2. Vehicles travelling from Thane Vaibhav Chowk and Almeida Signal towards TMC Circle will also face restrictions. They will be diverted via Vadana T-Point/Depot and Khopat.
3. Traffic travelling from Nitin Service Road towards Dharmaveer Cut and Teen Hath Naka will be diverted through the Nashik-Mumbai Highway slip road.
4. Vehicles approaching Dharmaveer Cut through Aadhar Hospital will be stopped at Dharmaveer Cut and diverted via Parmarth Niketan.
Restrictions will also be imposed at Kaushalya Cut, Satranj Wafers, Noori Baba Dargah Cut, Kamgar Naka, Yashodhan Nagar Chowk and Aai Mata Chowk.
Additional traffic arrangements have been announced around Birsa Munda Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Creek Naka, Tembhi Naka and Powar Nagar. At some locations, the opposite carriageway will temporarily be used for two-way traffic to facilitate movement.
No-Parking Restrictions Along Marathon Route
The traffic department has prohibited parking on both sides of several roads and stretches along the marathon route.

Traffic Advisory for Thane Residents
The restrictions are expected to affect several important roads and junctions during the marathon. Motorists are advised to avoid the restricted stretches wherever possible, follow diversion signs and comply with instructions issued by traffic police personnel.
Thane Traffic Police said the arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safe conduct of the marathon and uninterrupted traffic movement.
Residents and motorists travelling across Thane on Sunday are advised to leave early, factor in additional travel time and plan their routes according to the traffic diversions.
