1,121 CCTV Cameras in Thane Rural Area Linked to Police Control Room

Date:

The Thane Police Commissionerate has an extensive network of CCTV cameras. To keep a close watch on crime, traffic congestion, and group conflicts in rural areas, the Thane Rural Police have launched the initiative “Ek CCTV Aplya Surakshesathi.”

Special Inspector General (IG) of Police, Konkan Region, Sanjay Darade, inaugurated the initiative. As part of this initiative, CCTV cameras installed by households, roadside hotels, and dhabas have been directly linked to the police control room. Currently, 1,121 CCTV cameras are being monitored from this control room, and an additional 3,500 cameras will soon be integrated.

Thane Rural Police reached out to village heads, jewellers, and residents to inform them about the initiative. Many citizens and shop owners agreed to connect their CCTV cameras with the police control room. Information was also collected from petrol pumps, schools, restaurants, and hotels. So far, 1,121 cameras have been successfully linked to the control room.

24/7 Monitoring of CCTV Cameras

The control room will operate 24/7, with five police officers and personnel monitoring the CCTV footage. Once the CCTV network is established across all villages in the Thane rural district, the data collected will be analysed using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.

The jurisdiction of Thane Rural Police includes Bhiwandi Taluka, Ganeshpuri, Padgha, Kalyan Taluka, Kasara, Kinhavali, Kulgaon, Murbad, Shahapur, Tokawade, and Washind police stations. Major highways such as Mumbai-Nashik Highway, Wada-Bhiwandi Road, and Murbad Road pass through this region.
