1.5 Lakh Files Organized as NMMC Boosts Office Efficiency Under

Date:

Navi Mumbai: In an important move towards administrative efficiency and office cleanliness, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has classified over 1.5 lakh files as part of the state government’s 100-day, seven-point action plan. The initiative, launched under the directive of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to streamline office management in government and semi-government institutions.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has been closely monitoring the progress, ensuring that each department within the civic body adheres to the systematic execution of the action plan. A major focus of the initiative is office hygiene and proper record maintenance, with all department heads directed to complete the classification and preservation process by the end of March.

Under the campaign, records are being assessed, categorized, and either archived or disposed of in accordance with official regulations. Documents have been classified into four categories—A, B, C, and D—to ensure their systematic management. Inspection committees have been formed to oversee the process, conducting departmental visits to evaluate the work being carried out.

So far, the classification of 1,50,471 files has been completed across all NMMC departments. To bring uniformity and efficiency to the process, a special lecture by record-keeping expert Satyajit Bade was organized, providing guidance on best practices for document preservation and disposal.

In addition to file classification, the initiative has led to a renewed emphasis on overall office maintenance. Departments have implemented structured file storage systems, disposed of old and obsolete materials, and enhanced cleanliness within their premises. Alongside this, efforts are being made to improve office infrastructure, including the establishment of well-equipped waiting areas, access to clean drinking water, upgraded restroom facilities, and the installation of proper signage for the convenience of visitors.

With the 100-day action plan in full swing, municipal offices are transforming. The combination of record management, enhanced cleanliness, and citizen-friendly infrastructure is not only improving efficiency but also creating a more organized and welcoming environment within the NMMC.
