Mumbai: Why Mhada Waives Interest Charges of Lottery Winner After 17 Years, Milind Kamble, who had successfully secured a flat through the 2005 MHADA Konkan Board lottery in Balkum, Thane, received relief from the interest charges imposed due to a delayed payment for the flat’s sale price. Kamble approached the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to resolve the issue during MHADA’s 11th Lokshahi Din (Democracy Day), held on May 13, 2025, at the Housing Building in Bandra (East). The session was chaired by MHADA Vice President and CEO, Sanjeev Jaiswal (IAS).

During the event, two public grievances were addressed, with both applicants receiving favorable resolutions. In Kamble’s case, the applicant had received the payment notice only in late 2022 due to personal circumstances, despite having won the lottery nearly two decades earlier. He completed the full payment thereafter. After reviewing the situation, Jaiswal ordered a full waiver of the interest, provided Kamble submitted an undertaking stating he would not claim any further discounts on the sale price, as had been extended to other beneficiaries of the same scheme.

In another case, Omprakash Rathi filed a complaint regarding the alleged unauthorized transfer of ownership of his flat in a cessed building on V. V. Chandan Road, South Mumbai. After examining the case, Jaiswal directed the concerned board to conduct a detailed hearing on May 16, 2025, at the level of the Deputy Chief Engineer.

Today’s hearings also included applications from the MHADA Mumbai Building Repairs Board and the Konkan Board. Why Mhada Waives Interest Charges of Lottery Winner After 17 Years, Applicants lauded Lokshahi Din as an effective platform for citizens to seek timely and fair redressal of their grievances through government channels.
