Navi Mumbai: The Sanpada Foot Over Bridge (FOB) on the Sion-Panvel Special State Highway sustained severe damage after being hit by a dumper (MH04LQ1073) in the early hours of February 8, 2025. The accident, which occurred between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM, caused significant structural damage, including bent steel railings and broken sections of the bridge.
Following the incident, pedestrian access to the bridge has been temporarily halted to prevent any mishaps. However, authorities have warned that the damaged structure continues to pose a safety risk until full repairs are completed.
To facilitate the repair work, a planned traffic block will be implemented on March 6, 2025 (Thursday), from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. During this period, traffic moving from Vashi towards Panvel will be diverted via Palm Beach Road before rejoining the Sion-Panvel Highway. Officials believe this temporary route adjustment will help maintain smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion near the repair site.
A map detailing the proposed diversion plan has been released, and commuters are advised to follow alternative routes during the repair hours. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate to ensure a smooth and safe repair process.
