Navi Mumbai: Train services on Central Railway’s Trans-Harbour line were abruptly suspended on Friday morning, leaving thousands of commuters stranded at stations between Thane and Vashi. The disruption occurred after a girder, launched overnight between Thane and Airoli, was found to have tilted, prompting authorities to halt traffic as a safety precaution.
According to Central Railway officials, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had scheduled a traffic block from 1 am to 4 am to install the girder. However, the issue was discovered shortly after the girder was placed, leading to the suspension of services from 7:10 am.
As of now, no timeline has been provided for the restoration of train services. Meanwhile, large crowds have gathered at Thane, Vashi, Airoli, and other stations, as well as at Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus stands, with stranded office-goers seeking alternative ways to reach their destinations.
