Users of SIM cards from Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, and BSNL may have face problems from December 1. It is possible that users may stop getting OTP from the first date. Actually, because of the rise in online scams involving OTP, TRAI has implemented new regulations.
Now these rules can be implemented from 1 December. Although the new rules will help users to avoid cyber fraud, but the correct OTP messages will also get filtered out. While the Internet and smartphones have made life easier, the risk of cyber fraud and online scams has also increased with them. Keeping this in mind, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has made a new rule.
The authority has recently taken several important steps to protect people from these threats. TRAI has directed telecom companies to implement traceability of commercial messages and OTP (one-time password). This decision was announced in August. Earlier, companies had to implement this rule by October 31, but this deadline was extended to November 31 following requests from major players like Jio, Airtel, VI, and BSNL.
New rules for 5G infrastructure
A new rule will come into effect from January 1, 2025, which aims to rapidly develop 5G networks across the country. The government has issued a new guideline under the Telecom Act, which is being called Right of Way. This rule will set standardized charges for telecom infrastructure in all states. Currently, different states charge different fees for this, which causes difficulties for companies in setting up infrastructure. Right of Way rules will make this process easier.
