NMMC Presents Rs 25-Crore Surplus Budget for 2025-26, Focus on Infrastructure & Public Services

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced a Rs 5,709.95 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, with a surplus of Rs 25 crore. The budget reflects an overall increase of approximately 15% and prioritizes key sectors such as water supply, transportation, healthcare, and education.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde presented the budget, which includes an opening balance of Rs 1,301.04 crore, projected revenue of Rs 5,709.95 crore, and total expenditure of Rs 5,684.95 crore.

Dr. Shinde confirmed that there will be no increase in taxes, with the focus instead on securing new water sources to meet the growing demand following the commencement of operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport. Additionally, the budget emphasizes improving connectivity with the airport and boosting job creation.

Key Financial Highlights

  • Revenue Sources: Apart from state government grants, NMMC expects to generate ₹1,200 crore from property tax.
  • Major Expenditures:
    • Rs1,079 crore for civic amenities
    • Rs 544 crore for water supply and sanitation
    • Rs 478 crore for solid waste management
    • Rs 263 crore for healthcare
    • Rs 270 crore for transport
    • Rs 179 crore for education

Major Development Plans for 2025-26

The civic body has outlined several key initiatives for the year, including:

  • Establishing a nursing college and an ayurvedic college
  • Setting up laboratory facilities in schools
  • Developing a parking policy and implementing a city mobility plan
  • Constructing sports complexes and improving infrastructure
  • Enhancing connectivity with Navi Mumbai International Airport
  • Tapping new water sources to meet the city’s rising demand
