NMMC Cracks Down on Unauthorized Constructions in Belapur and Vashi

Date:

Belapur: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its drive to clear unauthorized constructions in the city, launching a series of demolition drives in Belapur, Nerul, and Vashi under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.

Despite prior notices issued by the corporation, several unauthorized structures remained untouched by the concerned parties. As a result, the NMMC’s Encroachment Department, guided by Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode, undertook demolition operations in multiple zones.

In Belapur’s Sector 15, unauthorized construction at Suncity Society (Plots 62, 63, 64) was demolished after society members failed to act on the notice issued under the MRTP Act Section 53(1A). The drive was executed by the ‘A’ Ward office of Belapur.

Similarly, in Sector 28, Nerul, 28 unauthorized huts erected on CIDCO land opposite the Vitthal Rukmini Temple were removed. Authorities stated that the occupants had been asked to vacate the premises voluntarily but failed to comply.

A major action was also taken in Vashi Gaon under Sector 31A, where 110 illegal huts located under high-pressure pipelines and on NMMC and CIDCO lands were demolished on April 18. The Vashi division’s team, led by Assistant Commissioner Alka Mahapurkar and Junior Engineer Mr. Mangesh Meher, carried out the operation with the help of police, security staff, and JCB machinery.

Each of these operations was supported by ground staff, engineers, encroachment police, and laborers, using heavy machinery including JCBs.

Officials have confirmed that such strict actions against illegal encroachments will continue in the coming weeks to maintain urban planning and public safety.
