Navi Mumbai– The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a demolition drive in Airoli after property owners failed to act on prior notices regarding unauthorized constructions. The action was carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr. Bhagwat Doiphode.
The demolition operation targeted structures at G-53 and G-109 in Sector 03, Airoli, where buildings had been constructed without obtaining the necessary permissions from NMMC. Earlier, notices were issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing the owners to remove the illegal structures voluntarily. However, as they failed to comply, NMMC partially demolished on February 27.
During the operation, one gas cutter, three breakers, and eight laborers were deployed. The drive was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Mr. Ankush Jadhav and Junior Engineer Mr. Sandeep Mhatre, along with other officials and staff from the Airoli division. Additionally, a penalty of ₹25,000 was collected from the violators.
NMMC has warned that similar strict actions will continue against illegal construction across the city. The administration has urged residents and builders to adhere to municipal regulations to avoid legal consequences.
