NMMC Announces Amnesty Scheme: 50% Penalty Waiver on Delayed Property Tax Payments, Check Details Here

Date:

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has introduced an Amnesty Scheme, offering a 50% waiver on penalties for delayed property tax payments. This initiative is being promoted as a golden opportunity for defaulters to clear their dues with reduced penalties.

The scheme will be available from March 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM, until March 31, 2025, at midnight. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged property owners to take advantage of this limited-time offer and settle their outstanding dues.

Key Highlights of the Amnesty Scheme

  • No waiver on the principal amount: Property owners must pay the full outstanding tax; only the penalty on delayed payments is reduced by 50%.
  • Full payment required: Partial payments will not be accepted. To qualify, taxpayers must pay the entire outstanding amount (including the reduced penalty) in one single payment.
  • Strict legal action for non-payment: Defaulters who fail to pay despite multiple reminders will face legal consequences.

A substantial amount of property tax remains unpaid within NMMC’s jurisdiction. As per the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the commissioner has the authority to waive penalties to encourage better tax collection. Exercising this power, Dr. Kailas Shinde has implemented the Amnesty Scheme to help defaulters clear their dues with reduced penalties before the deadline.

How to Avail the Scheme

Property owners can apply through:

  • The official NMMC website (nmmc.gov.in)
  • The “My NMMC – Majhi Navi Mumbai” mobile app
  • In-person at municipal headquarters, ward offices, or designated payment centers

Payment Methods Accepted:

  • Cash (as per RBI guidelines)
  • Cheque (if a cheque bounces, eligibility for the scheme is lost)
  • Demand draft
  • Debit or credit card
  • Internet banking, NEFT, RTGS, and UPI

Important Conditions

  • The scheme is only applicable to taxpayers who pay their full outstanding amount, including the current year’s dues, in one single payment between March 10 and March 31, 2025.
  • Payments made before March 10, 2025, will not be eligible for a refund or adjustment under this scheme.

Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged all property owners to clear their dues before the deadline and cooperate with NMMC’s tax collection teams. This is a one-time opportunity to avoid legal consequences while benefiting from a 50% penalty waiver. Act now and settle your property tax arrears before March 31, 2025!
