In a decisive move to enforce urban planning regulations, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has conducted a series of demolitions targeting unauthorized constructions in the Koparkhairane and Ghansoli areas. The operation, executed by the NMMC’s encroachment department, followed repeated warnings issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, which were ultimately disregarded.
The enforcement drive saw significant action in Koparkhairane’s Sector 17, where three illegal structures were razed, with each owner facing a ₹10,000 fine. Further action in Sector 4 resulted in the removal of an unauthorized wall. Street vendors operating illegally in the vicinity of the Koparkhairane Shiv Temple in Pavane village also faced consequences, as their goods were confiscated.
In Ghansoli, the NMMC targeted a substantial unauthorized RCC ground plus a one-story construction in Gothivaligaon, demolishing the building. The operations were carried out using heavy machinery and manpower, demonstrating the municipality’s commitment to enforcing its planning laws.
The NMMC officials, including Assistant Commissioners from both Koparkhairane and Ghansoli divisions, oversaw the operations, with support from police personnel. The municipality has reiterated that these actions are essential to maintain the city’s planned development and uphold legal standards.
