Mumbai’s Elphinstone Bridge To Be demolished in last week of February

Date:

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will dismantle and rebuild the Elphinstone bridge.

This demolition will cause major traffic congestion because the Elphinstone road over bridge (ROB) is a key link between Parel and Prabhadevi over the Central and Western Railway tracks.

The demolition of the British-era bridge, a crucial east-west connector that passes over railway tracks near the Prabhadevi and Parel stations, is necessary for two purposes: to raise its height and width and to construct the Sewri-Worli connector, which will pass over it. When both projects are completed, there will be a double-decker bridge over the railway tracks,

Alternative Routes To Travel As Elphinstone Bridge Faces Closure

The traffic will be diverted to Tilak Bridge (Dadar) and Currey Road Bridge- already burdened with heavy vehicular flow- as Elphinstone bridge will be closed. With limited alternative routes, peak-hour congestion is expected to worsen, increasing commute times.
