Navi Mumbai: A full-scale mock drill titled “Operation Abhyas” will be conducted on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 4 PM in the Vashi area of Navi Mumbai, as part of an emergency preparedness initiative. The exercise is being organized under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs to test readiness in handling potential disaster situations.
The drill will take place at Neelsiddhi Tower (A and B Wings), near the NMMT Terminus, Plot No. 95, Sector 12, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. It will be executed under the leadership of Thane District Collector and Civil Defence Controller Ashok Shingare, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, Additional District Collector Harishchandra Patil, Resident Deputy Collector Dr. Sandeep Mane, Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Sub-Divisional Officer Urmila Patil, City Engineer and Chief Fire Officer Shirish Ardhavad, and Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Vijay Jadhav. The initiative is being coordinated by Tehsildar Umesh Patil.
As part of the drill, a siren will be sounded at 4:00 PM, followed by a simulated alert indicating an air strike or bomb attack. Emergency response teams will issue instructions to citizens to evacuate the area calmly and reach designated safe zones. Rescue operations will be simulated in the vicinity, including locating and evacuating injured or trapped individuals and providing them with first aid.
Authorities have urged all participating agencies to approach the drill with utmost seriousness and to follow all protocols as outlined by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Tehsildar Umesh Patil has appealed to residents not to panic, not to believe in any rumors, and to refrain from taking selfies during the exercise. He emphasized that the event is purely a preparedness measure and that no real emergency has taken place.
