The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK government to support the expansion and improvement of Mumbai’s Metro network. The agreement was announced on Monday and was formalized during the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.
The partnership involves collaboration with the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) and Crossrail International (CI). The primary objective of this initiative is to develop a world-class, integrated transportation system for Mumbai.
According to a statement from MMRDA, the collaboration will focus on key areas such as improving intermodal connectivity, enhancing first- and last-mile transport access, and driving digital innovation within the transport sector.
The agreement also highlights the importance of global knowledge exchange, with plans to promote research and innovation through collaborations between academic institutions in India and the UK.
At present, MMRDA is developing a 337-kilometer Metro network, with approximately 59 kilometres already operational.
