Fukuoka (Japan): Japanese toilet manufacturer Toto Ltd. has launched a high-tech home-use toilet that can analyze stool quantity, hardness, and other elements, providing detailed health insights. The innovation is being hailed as a breakthrough in Japan’s health-tech sector.
Equipped with a scanner inside the toilet bowl, the device measures stool and syncs the data with a smartphone app, allowing users to track their daily bowel health. The system is designed to appeal to health-conscious consumers, as interest in monitoring stool-related health indicators continues to rise.

The sensor module, installed near the cleaning nozzle inside the bowl, works using a barcode-like scanning technology.
According to a Toto survey, while 76% of users visually check their stool after defecation, only 6% record this data digitally. Since launching its first washlet bidet seat in 1980, the company has consistently upgraded features for hygiene, comfort, and water efficiency. In recent years, its focus has shifted more toward consumer wellness and health monitoring.
Seven types of analysis
The system classifies stool into seven types based on shape and firmness—ranging from granular to banana-shaped to liquid—along with three color categories: light yellow-brown, brown, and dark brown. The app then tracks frequency and condition in a calendar format and offers lifestyle advice tailored to bowel movement trends.
Price starts at Rs. 32,5626
The stool-analysis feature will be available in Toto’s high-end Neorest models. The LSW model is priced at 542,300 yen (approx. rs. 325626), while the ASW model starts at 493,900 yen (approx. rs. 296564).
