Navi Mumbai: In a major citizen-centric reform, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has partnered with women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to deliver property tax bills directly to households—ushering in a new era of community participation and administrative efficiency.
This innovative move is part of NMMC’s larger strategy to boost property tax collection for the financial year 2025–26, with a target of ₹1200 crore, following last year’s record ₹826 crore collection. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde, the civic body has introduced several new measures to make the process faster, smarter, and more inclusive.
Starting this year, NMMC will issue only one consolidated annual property tax bill, replacing the earlier biannual format. To ensure timely and accurate delivery, SHG women have been appointed to carry out door-to-door distribution across the city’s 3.5 lakh-plus properties.
Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with these representatives and provide their mobile numbers and email IDs to link with their property records. This will enable future bills and updates to be delivered via SMS and email, reducing paperwork and delays.
Alongside this outreach initiative, NMMC has launched the Early Bird Scheme, offering a 10% discount on the general tax amount for payments made by June 30, 2025. Bills are already available online on www.nmmc.gov.in and through the “My NMMC – Majhi Navi Mumbai” mobile app.
To further simplify payments, the civic body has adopted the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), allowing secure transactions through UPI, online banking, credit/debit cards, and mobile wallets.
“Our goal is to make tax payment easier, faster, and more participatory. By involving SHG women and embracing digital platforms, we are not just improving collections but also empowering communities,” said Dr. Kailas Shinde.
With this reform-driven approach, NMMC aims to not only strengthen its revenue stream but also set a new benchmark in inclusive urban governance.
