Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stepped up its enforcement of the plastic ban, launching a series of targeted raids across the city to curb the use and transport of single-use plastic.
In a major operation, NMMC’s flying squad intercepted a tempo carrying banned plastic bags in Zone 1, seizing over 50 kg of illegal stock. A fine of ₹5,000 was imposed on the offender.
Similar action was taken in Zone 2 under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kailas Gaikwad. Plastic bags were found at B-Mart in Sector 11, Ghansoli, and at Mahalaxmi Fast Food in Sector 6, Airoli. Both establishments were penalized ₹5,000 each, and stocks were confiscated.
The civic body is also ramping up public awareness campaigns, urging citizens to switch to sustainable alternatives like cloth and paper bags.
“Strict enforcement is essential to protect the environment and public health,” an NMMC official stated, warning that further action will continue against violators.
The drive is part of NMMC’s broader commitment to a cleaner, plastic-free Navi Mumbai.
