Mumbai. A tragic accident in Lalbaug on Sunday claimed the life of 28-year-old Nupura Maniyar, shattering her family’s hopes and dreams. The accident occurred when a drunk passenger, identified as Datta Shinde, caused a BEST bus to lose control, resulting in a devastating crash that left nine people seriously injured. Nupura, a resident of Chinchpokli, was the sole breadwinner of her family, having taken on the responsibility after her father’s death during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employed as a clerk in the Income Tax Department, she was planning to begin a new chapter of her life with her partner this Diwali. However, her dreams were abruptly cut short by the reckless actions of an intoxicated passenger.

Had come to Lalbaug for shopping

The incident unfolded during the bustling Ganeshotsav festivities, a time when Lalbaug is usually crowded with shoppers and devotees. Nupura, who had come to Lalbaug for shopping with her partner, was fatally injured when the bus, out of control, struck her. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday, leaving her mother and younger sister in mourning. The bus, traveling from Rani Lakshmibai Chowk, Sion towards Ballard Pier, became the site of chaos when Shinde, in a drunken state, began arguing with the driver near Ganesh Talkies. Shinde demanded that the bus stop, and when the driver did not comply, he attacked the driver, grabbing his collar and hitting him. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic accident.

Lalbaug community is in shock

The Lalbaug community is in shock, mourning the loss of Nupura, who was a beloved daughter, sister, and partner. The incident has sparked outrage, with many questioning the safety measures in place to prevent such tragedies.
