Central Railway’s AC Local Ticket Drive Nets Rs 2.70 Crore in Penalties

Date:

Mumbai: Central Railway’s Mumbai Division has intensified its ticket-checking drive in AC local trains, recovering Rs 2.70 crore in penalties in the ongoing financial year up to January 2025. With 81,709 cases of irregular travel detected, the railway authorities have recorded a 127% increase compared to the previous year, when Rs 1.19 crore was collected from 35,885 cases.

The increased enforcement is aimed at ensuring legitimate travel on Mumbai’s suburban rail network, which caters to approximately 3.9 million passengers daily. In January 2025 alone, Rs 27.82 lakh was collected from 8,535 cases, reflecting a 135% rise in revenue and a 143% jump in cases compared to January 2024. December 2024 saw Rs 29.56 lakh collected from 9,134 cases, underscoring the growing focus on ticket compliance.

To curb fare evasion and enhance passenger convenience, Central Railway has introduced several measures, including a dedicated AC Task Force for suburban trains, a WhatsApp complaint helpline (7208819987) for peak-hour assistance, and a Special Monitoring Team to oversee ticket-checking operations. Authorities have urged commuters to travel with valid tickets to ensure a smooth and penalty-free journey.
