Pod taxi service will play a crucial role in decongesting traffic between Bandra and Kurla railway stations within the BKC, a zone where vehicular load is expected to increase further.
Mumbai: The Bandra-Kurla pod taxi project, the country’s only such initiative, will be implemented as a model project, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said while directing officials to accelerate the work.
A detailed presentation on the pod taxi service was made at the Deputy CM’s residence in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Aseem Gupta, Principal Secretary Naveen Sona, MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Additional Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, Inspector General of Police Anil Kumbhare, and other senior officials.
Officials noted that the pod taxi service will play a crucial role in decongesting traffic between Bandra and Kurla railway stations within the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a zone where vehicular load is expected to increase further.
To Serve as a Model for the Country
The 8-km stretch between Bandra and Kurla will feature 33 stations for pod taxis. According to Shinde, once operational, the service will help reduce dependency on private vehicles and ease traffic congestion on roads.
