Mumbai: The main construction of the Gopalakrishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri has been completed 100%, and the Vikhroli Railway Station flyover is 95% complete, as reported by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), Abhijeet Bangar. Both projects are expected to be fully operational by the end of April and May 2025, respectively.
Bangar inspected the Gopalakrishna Gokhale Bridge and the Vikhroli flyover on April 25, 2025. He confirmed that the Gopalakrishna Gokhale Bridge, which connects Andheri East and West, has completed all major construction works, including the railway boundary work, access ramps, and the connector to the C.D. Burfiwala Bridge. The final concrete work between the Teli Galli Bridge and the Gokhale Bridge was also completed on the same day. The remaining tasks, such as installing crash barriers, noise barriers, railings, and signage, are expected to be completed by April 30, 2025. Bangar emphasized that traffic coordination with police would determine the opening date for public use.
The flyover near Vikhroli Railway Station, which connects the East and West, is 95% complete. The work includes the eastern side and railway boundary portions, as well as solid approach roads on the western side. The western side near St. Joseph’s School still requires deck slab installation on three spans. This work is expected to be completed by May 31, 2025. In addition, final tasks like crash barriers and noise barriers will be completed to ensure the flyover opens before the monsoon season.
The completion of these projects will significantly improve traffic flow in the region. The Gopalakrishna Gokhale Bridge will save time and fuel for vehicles traveling from the Eastern Express Highway to Powai, and also benefit commuters from nearby stations like Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Kanjurmarg.
Both projects have been fast-tracked under the guidance of Bangar, who assures that all works will be completed on schedule to enhance the city’s infrastructure and ease of travel for its citizens.
