Navi Mumbai: In a refreshing shift from routine academics, Sadhu Vaswani International School at Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, recently hosted its second edition of the much-loved “Sunset Picnic”, an overnight event for students of Classes 5 to 12. The initiative saw around 400 students spend a night at the school—not with textbooks and blackboards, but with tents, cooking pots, games, and laughter, all under the supervision of teachers and school staff.
Organized by Principal Ms. Samriddhi Roy, the event was designed to help students develop leadership, interpersonal communication, and team-building skills. “We wanted to end the academic year on a happy note and create beautiful memories for our students,” Ms. Roy said. “When they return for the next academic session, we want them to reminisce about this special night and feel excited, happy, and positive about school.”

Tent Created By Students

Throughout the night, students took part in a variety of creative and practical activities. They brought their own blankets, mats, pyjamas, and clothes to build tents, cooked their own dinner, and engaged in games, stargazing, interactive group sessions, and more—all under the guidance of school staff. These activities were designed to promote independence, problem-solving, and deeper connections among peers.
Parents too were full of praise for the initiative. Ravi Tiwari, father of a Class 9 student, remarked, “Such events should be held regularly. They offer a new way for students to understand their school community and help build essential life skills alongside academics.”
As students prepare to step into the next academic session, memories of the Sunset Picnic will likely stay with them—not just as a fun event, but as a milestone of friendship, confidence, and joyful learning beyond the classroom.
