In a first for Maharashtra, Mumbai’s JJ Hospital has introduced electric vehicles (EVs) for transporting deceased patients from wards to the mortuary. The EV mortuary vehicles were inaugurated by the hospital’s Dean, Dr. Ajay Bhandarwar.
With this initiative, JJ Hospital has become the first government hospital in the state to deploy specially designed zero-carbon emission vehicles for mortuary services.
Previously, deceased patients were transported using traditional ambulances or stretchers. Now, two state-of-the-art electric mortuary vehicles have been launched, offering a more environmentally friendly and dignified method of transportation within the hospital premises.
A key feature of these new EV mortuary vehicles is their negative pressure system, which prevents the spread of infections during transportation by maintaining a controlled and hygienic environment. This not only ensures the safety of hospital staff but also supports eco-friendly practices within the hospital.
