For the first time, a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) housing project in Kandivali, Mumbai is set to include a wide range of modern amenities such as a community kitchen, business center, spa, yoga, gym, library, daycare center, social media studio, community hall, and a three-bed primary healthcare center.
The Maharashtra government has introduced this innovative model to redefine SRA housing. A blueprint is also being prepared to replicate the model in other states across India.
As part of this initiative, a 30-storey building named Shreeji Sharan has been constructed on Link Road in Kandivali (West), Mumbai. The project will accommodate around 700 poor families, each receiving a 300 sq. ft. home.
According to Mehul Sanghvi, Director of the Shreeji Sharan Group, the project is not just about providing housing but about addressing the broader needs of the community. Notably, the community kitchen, in particular, is intended to empower women economically.
This Kandivali SRA project is being seen as a model project. The aim is to eliminate the need for residents to travel for basic services like healthcare, child care, or work-related needs. To ensure this, the SRA has encouraged all developers to adopt similar community-focused amenities in upcoming projects.
Unlike traditional SRA developments, where builders complete the construction and exit, this project stands out for its holistic approach—offering residents a complete ecosystem of support and facilities.
