NMMC Begins Crackdown on Unauthorized Constructions, Survey to be Completed in Four Months

Date:

Navi Mumbai: Taking a firm stance against unauthorized constructions, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a comprehensive survey to identify and take action against illegal structures within its jurisdiction. The initiative follows directives from the Bombay High Court in response to Public Interest Litigations (PIL) No. 111/2022 and 209/2023.

A high-level planning meeting was held at the NMMC headquarters under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Encroachment Department, Town Planning, CIDCO, MIDC, the District Collector’s office, the Forest Department, the Mangrove Protection Branch, and Navi Mumbai Police.

As per the High Court’s orders, the survey must be completed within four months. The process will include node-wise inspections, detailed reporting, issuing notices to property holders, conducting hearings, and taking appropriate legal action. Dr. Shinde has also instructed all departments to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s guidelines issued on November 13, 2024.

Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with the survey teams, emphasizing that strict measures will be taken against violators. The NMMC aims to streamline urban development and curb illegal constructions that pose a threat to planned city infrastructure.
