Thane Municipal Corporation Goes Digital: Paperless Office System from April!

Date:

In a major step towards digitization, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is moving towards a paperless working system, following the initiative of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. During the budget speech for the financial year 2025-26, the Commissioner had announced the implementation of an e-office system aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in the administration.

Acting on this announcement, the municipal administration has begun preparations to launch the online system from April 1. As part of the process, employees from various departments have started receiving training to operate the new system. This training marks the first phase of TMC’s transition to a paperless workflow.

The e-office system will allow officers and staff to process citizens’ applications and various project proposals online, eliminating the need for physical paperwork. Additionally, citizens will no longer be required to visit the municipal headquarters or ward offices for services, as most services will be made available online. TMC plans to implement the e-office system through the Government of India’s National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Official Email IDs Created for Employees

According to information received from the TMC administration, an official email ID has been created for every officer and employee of the corporation. In the initial phase, the administration will continue to operate in both online and offline modes. However, the offline system will eventually be phased out, making the entire administrative process paperless.

Missing Files Will Be a Thing of the Past

To ensure a smooth transition, training sessions are being conducted for officers and staff from various departments at the TMC headquarters and at the URCT office in Majiwada. Four officials from NIC are leading these training programs. The corporation has also decided to roll out this system at Citizen Facilitation Centers from April 1.

Once implemented, senior officers will be able to monitor the progress of proposals and the status of citizen applications in real-time. This will also address past issues where files related to various proposals were reported missing from the municipal office. With the new system, not only will the risk of missing files be eliminated, but citizens will also have access to approved proposals and other important documents on the TMC’s official website.
