The Encroachment Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) demolished multiple unauthorised under-construction structures in Koparkhairane on Friday after owners failed to comply with civic body notices.
“Despite issuing notices, owners of illegal structures failed to acknowledge them, prompting the Encroachment Department to take strict action,” said Vasant Mundaware, Assistant Commissioner of Airoli ward.
Under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, NMMC had served notices on February 20, 2025, to property owners Jagdale Maruti Bapu, Vishnu Shankar Sutar, and Jaysingh Yashwant Patil, all residing in S.S. Type buildings in Sector 17. As the violations persisted, the civic body proceeded with demolitions.
The operation was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode overseeing the process. A demolition team comprising eight laborers, two electronic hammers, and a pickup van carried out the task, supervised by Assistant Commissioner Vasant Mundaware and Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre. Officials from G Division and a police team were also deployed to ensure a smooth execution.
NMMC has warned that similar actions will continue with greater intensity to curb illegal constructions and enforce urban planning regulations.
